Nurses Week – May 6 to May 12, 2011

By Ken Buben, President, FancyScrubs.com

Today begins Nurse’s Week and I wanted to thank all the nurses who do such a tremendous job everyday and put themselves in harms way each day. Whether it’s being around sick people all the time, heavy lifting on the job, or dealing with death it’s a very stressful and hard working profession.

Nurses Week - May 6-12

Nurses week is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale laid the foundation of professional nursing with the establishment, in 1860, of her nursing school at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, the first secular nursing school in the world, now part of King’s College London. The Nightingale Pledge taken by new nurses was named in her honour, and the annual International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on her birthday.

So we hope all nurses are celebrated this week and everyday as they help millions of sick people daily working long hours and exposing themselves to sickness and disease.
